GRS certification and the traceability of recycled raw materials

2024.05.06

In order to promote the sustainable development of the industry, Tah Hsin Industrial strives to increase the recycling ratio of using raw materials in the product manufacturing process, strengthen the recycling of raw materials, and ensure that the chemicals used in production will not cause unnecessary harm to the environment or employees, and workers responsible for production operations are protected by social responsibility policies. Based on the above self-requirements and the requirements of the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), Tah Hsin arranged for the entire factory site of the group to obtain GRS standard certification.

Global Recycled Standard (GRS) has developed one of the most important recycling standards for Textile Exchange (TE). It aims to certify products whose ingredients contain 20% or more recycled raw materials. All materials and products claiming to be recyclable must meet international standard definitions of recycling, whether post-consumer or pre-consumer. The traceability of these materials throughout the supply chain is key to ensuring that the materials used in the final product can be certified. From recyclers to final brands, they must ensure that the entire supply chain has the status of "supplying recyclable materials." To do this, every stage of the supply chain must pass on-site audits and document reviews by certification body.

At the same time, GRS has particularly strict requirements in terms of social responsibility, chemical management and environmental management. Requirements for the use of chemicals include having a chemical management system, having dedicated personnel to monitor the use of chemicals, having mechanisms in place to monitor any chemicals used on site, and training employees on the chemicals.

Regarding the requirements for the supply chain, the recycled materials making the declaration must ensure the integrity and consistency from the beginning of the supply chain to the final product, and must go through relevant verified supervision and management processes.

Tah Hsin Group passed the GRS verification of the following factories in May 2024: Taichung plant, Myanmar factory, Tah Viet factory (in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam ) and Truong Giang factory (in Da Nang, Vietnam). At the same time, in response to customer requirements, we provide transaction certificates (Transaction Certificates) that can trace the production history of each order. By using certified and compliant recycled materials in the production of apparel products, Tah Hsin gradually realizes the sustainable cycle of the product supply chain.
